The Dominican Republic has signed a technical and economic agreement with the government of India under which the latter will provide a US$10mn credit line for irrigation works, local paper Listín Diario reported.
The works will be carried out by the Dominican Republic’s water authority (Indrhi).
The agreement was signed by India’s foreign minister Shashi Tharoor, who visited the Caribbean country from 23-25 January 2010.
Trade between the Dominican Republic and India has increased by over 300% since diplomatic relations between both countries were established in 1999, during the first term of President Leonel Fernández, the report said.
